Lately, I have been thinking about what would happen if a catastrophic event were to happen. An event like a meteor slamming into the earth or a foreign country releasing their nuclear missiles an they exploded on or above the location where you reside. Such an event would probably knock out the power grid, and all of a sudden the electrical energy that we all take for granted will now cease to exist.
What would you do? We depend so much on our economy, like going to the grocery store and buying the food and products that we need to live our lives. If an event would occur we would no longer have these luxuries.
We all lived through the Covid-19 pandemic. We saw firsthand how people ran to the store and stocked up on the items they needed to survive. Now imagine the same type of pandemic but with no electricity. People with generators would last a while or until they run out of gas, and then they will be in the same situation as everyone else. The preppers and homesteaders would be the ones that would be in the best shape. Because they were the smart ones that prepared for such an event.
The problem today is that we all depend too much on technology. We all depend on grocery stores to buy our food, clothing stores to buy things to wear, and pharmacies to buy our medicine. If this was suddenly taken away from us how would we survive? There is so much we need to learn to survive. Food would be the most important commodity because we all need it to survive.
Most of us have never attempted to grow food, or have any idea how much you would need for you and your family to survive. We would all need to become hunters and gathers like our ancestors were if we were going to survive. Have you ever hunted for your food? I have never killed anything, I don’t even own a gun. If I did get lucky enough to kill an animal I have no idea how to clean or prepare it for later use. How would you survive during the winter months? How would you keep warm from the cold? Do you have a wood stove? Do you have split wood drying out to burn for the winter months? I am willing to bet your answer is the same as mine, and that answer is no. I depend on the economy to live, I depend on fuel oil propane, and kerosene to keep warm and to cook my food.
I can say I grow food as a hobby, and that is all it is a hobby. If I had to grow food to survive, I am afraid that I would starve and die along with my family by my side. Of course, I would be the blame for their deaths, because my responsibility is to provide for my family.
In conclusion, the point of me writing this article is to give my readers something to think about. The possibility of an event that would change the way we live is very probable. So I will end the same way that I started this article. How will you survive?
