Happy 4th of July! Today was a great day not only the celebration of our independence but today I harvested my first batch of lettuce, Oh what a feeling! The feeling of being able to grow and harvest your own food is indescribable. Yes, I grew that! Now I have some bragging rights, and you will too! Lettuce is probably one of the easiest vegetables to grow hydroponically,
Lettuce grown hydroponically takes about thirty days to harvest from seed. That is approx. half the time it takes to grow lettuce in soil. Choose your method of hydroponics! Kratky, ebb and flow, aeroponic, deepwater culture, or the rain gutter method. All of these types of hydroponics work well, and I encourage you to grow something! Start small and once you have mastered the skills then venture into something more challenging and more productive!
This year I tried the rain gutter method. The lettuce that I harvested for this article was grown using this method. Very simple system to build and simple to maintain. All it really takes is some tender loving care!
